Royan Logistic

Kyrgyzstan

Freight between Iran and Kyrgyzstan: Bishkek and Osh

Royan Logistic carries cargo from Iran to Bishkek, Osh and southern Kyrgyzstan as full truckloads or groupage, and plans return cargo on the same corridors. We plan around the road through Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, rail via Kazakhstan, the mountain passes and the season. We have an active representative office in Bishkek.

Freight between Iran and Kyrgyzstan: Bishkek and Osh

Most of Kyrgyzstan lies in the high valleys of the Tien Shan mountains, and it shares no border with Iran. Cargo from Iran almost always reaches it through Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, after which two main directions split: north to Bishkek via Kazakhstan, or south to Osh via the Fergana Valley. The delivery city therefore drives the corridor, the transit time and the winter plan. Royan Logistic plans Kyrgyzstan shipments along both axes, based on the destination and the season.

Delivery points

  • Bishkek: the capital and main distribution hub, about twenty kilometres from the Korday crossing with Kazakhstan; the natural continuation of the Tashkent–Shymkent–Taraz road from Iran.
  • Osh: the southern hub in the Fergana Valley, reached directly from Iran via Uzbekistan's Andijan region, or from Bishkek over mountain passes.
  • Jalal-Abad and other southern cities: planned together with Osh, with the same route and season considerations.

Typical Iranian exports to Kyrgyzstan include dried fruit and pistachios, fresh fruit and vegetables, dairy products, building materials and ceramic tiles, polymers and petrochemicals, and steel products. Return cargo is planned on the same corridors.

Customs position

Kyrgyzstan is a member of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) together with Kazakhstan and Russia. Cargo arriving via Kazakhstan enters the Union at the Kazakh border, Korday works as an internal border, and import clearance usually takes place in Bishkek. Uzbekistan is not an EAEU member, so on the Osh route the Kyrgyz border is the Union entry point. Iran and the EAEU have a free trade agreement; whether preferential duty applies depends on the product and the certificate of origin and is checked per shipment. See our Kazakhstan freight page for that leg. Customs practice is confirmed against current regulations for each shipment.

Routes from Iran to Kyrgyzstan

RouteApprox. transit (from Iran)AdvantageWatch out for
Road: Sarakhs or Lotfabad/Bajgiran → Turkmenistan → Farap–Alat → Uzbekistan (Bukhara, Samarkand, Tashkent) → Kazakhstan (Shymkent, Taraz) → Korday → BishkekBishkek 9-13 daysInternal Union border at Korday; very short last mile to BishkekThree transit countries; Turkmen and Uzbek transit permits, driver visas
Road: Sarakhs → Turkmenistan → Uzbekistan (Tashkent, Kamchik pass, Fergana Valley, Andijan) → Dostuk → OshOsh 8-12 daysDirect access to the south; avoids the Bishkek–Osh mountain passesWinter conditions on the Kamchik pass; Uzbek–Kyrgyz border queues
Rail: Incheh Borun or Sarakhs → Turkmenistan → Kazakhstan → BishkekBishkek 12-18 daysBulky cargo suited to wagons or containersGauge change at the border; last mile by road

Times are approximate, counted from the loading point in Iran, and depend on border queues, transit permits and pass conditions. The Bishkek road shares the Kazakhstan route as far as Shymkent, so loads can be planned together. For Osh, entry via the Fergana Valley is usually shorter; see our Uzbekistan freight and Turkmenistan freight pages. In rare cases combined with western Kazakhstan, the Caspian link to Aktau can be considered, but the road leg after Aktau is long.

Kyrgyzstan's rail network is limited: the northern line links Bishkek to Kazakhstan, the southern lines link the Osh and Jalal-Abad area to Uzbekistan, and there is no rail link between north and south. Rail cargo from Iran enters the Turkmen network at Incheh Borun (Kazakhstan–Turkmenistan–Iran line) or Sarakhs; Iran uses standard gauge and Central Asia 1520 mm, so bogies are changed or cargo is transshipped at the border. See our rail freight page.

Kyrgyzstan borders China and is the closest Central Asian country to the Kashgar region. We can plan China-origin cargo to Kyrgyzstan three ways:

  • Torugart: a high mountain crossing from Kashgar via Naryn towards Bishkek.
  • Irkeshtam: from Kashgar via Sary-Tash down to Osh; the natural gateway for southern Kyrgyzstan and onward to Uzbekistan.
  • Via Kazakhstan: Khorgos to Almaty, then Korday to Bishkek; an alternative when mountain crossings are affected by winter.

Winter conditions, working days and holiday closures at Torugart and Irkeshtam directly affect planning, so we confirm their status for each shipment. For cargo from China to Iran, the China–Kazakhstan–Turkmenistan–Iran rail corridor is considered. A railway linking China, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan is under construction. See our China freight page.

Mountain passes and seasons

The main Bishkek–Osh road crosses the Töö-Ashuu and Ala-Bel passes, both above 3,000 metres. Cargo from Iran delivered in Bishkek, or brought to Osh directly through the Fergana Valley, does not use them, but loads continuing south from Bishkek and the Osh route over Uzbekistan's Kamchik pass need winter planning.

SeasonMain riskWhat we do
Winter (November-March)Snow, ice, chain requirements and temporary closures on passes; blizzards in the Kazakh steppeAdd two to three days of buffer, assess Bishkek and Osh deliveries separately, recommend heated or refrigerated trucks for freeze-sensitive cargo
SpringSnowmelt, landslide risk, roadworks and axle-load limitsConfirm the route in advance for heavy cargo
SummerTemperatures above 40 °C in the Turkmen desert and the Fergana ValleyPacking, pre-cooling and reefer trucks for fresh produce and dairy
AutumnCold nights and early snow at altitudeMonitor pass conditions; generally the most balanced period

See our refrigerated transport page and our reefer transport guide.

Groupage or full truckload

Kyrgyzstan is a smaller market, and many exporters send just a few pallets. Groupage to Bishkek is common: the cargo is consolidated in Iran, split on arrival, and transit takes a few days longer than a dedicated truck; pricing is based on loading metres, volume or weight (see what is LTL groupage). Above about 15 pallets, for temperature-controlled cargo or firm delivery dates, a full truck is usually better; on mountain roads it also avoids transshipment and reduces handling damage. See groupage and full truckload.

How we plan a Kyrgyzstan shipment

  1. We confirm the cargo and destination: Bishkek or Osh; pallet count, weight, packing and temperature sensitivity. This choice sets the Kazakhstan or Fergana direction.
  2. We choose the corridor: for Bishkek, road via Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, or rail; for Osh, road via Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and the Fergana Valley.
  3. We match the documents: description, HS code, package count and weight identical on invoice, packing list and CMR, with the EAEU conformity document ready where needed.
  4. We prepare the receiving side: the consignee's customs broker, unloading address and hours are confirmed before departure, in Russian where needed.
  5. We track the shipment: a tracking link (for example with a code starting RYN-) shows loading, border exit, transshipment, estimated delivery, location and shared documents.

Documents

  • Commercial invoice and packing list
  • Certificate of origin
  • CMR consignment note and TIR Carnet
  • Iranian export declaration (Iran Customs Administration, IRICA) with the correct HS code
  • EAEU conformity document (EAC) depending on the product
  • Phytosanitary or veterinary certificate for fresh produce, dried fruit and dairy
  • Transit documents for Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and, where relevant, Kazakhstan; driver visas

See our CMR and TIR Carnet guide. Requirements vary by product; payment and documentation requirements are reviewed per shipment.

Insurance on a mountain route

Carrier liability under the CMR Convention is limited to 8.33 SDR per kilogram, which does not cover the real value of machinery, electronics or high-value food cargo. For valuable cargo on long mountain routes we recommend separate cargo insurance; see CMR liability vs cargo insurance.

Trucks and preparation by cargo type

  • Fresh fruit and vegetables: reefer truck, pre-cooling and phytosanitary certificate; temperature monitoring across the desert leg in summer.
  • Dried fruit and pistachios: packing that protects against moisture and heat; cargo insurance for high-value loads.
  • Dairy: unbroken cold chain and veterinary certificate; truck choice based on freezing or heat risk.
  • Building materials and ceramic tiles: loads close to the weight limit; pallets secured for rough pass roads and axle limits checked in advance.
  • Polymers and steel: moisture protection for bagged polymers, correct securing for steel; rail for large lots.
  • Heavy and out-of-gauge equipment: special trailers, permits and route surveys; see project and out-of-gauge cargo.

What affects the price

We quote per shipment rather than a fixed rate. The main factors are the corridor and distance, Bishkek or Osh delivery, FTL or groupage, transit permits and border costs, rail transshipment, trailer type, season, fuel and exchange rates. Our quote states which corridor it assumes and what is included.

Frequently asked questions

How long does freight from Iran to Kyrgyzstan take?

Approximately 9-13 days to Bishkek by road via Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, and 8-12 days to Osh via Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. Rail to Bishkek takes roughly 12-18 days. Winter conditions can add several days, and groupage loads take somewhat longer.

Which border crossing is used to enter Kyrgyzstan?

Cargo from Iran to Bishkek arrives through Kazakhstan and usually enters at Korday, about twenty kilometres from Bishkek. For Osh and the south, the Dostuk crossing from Uzbekistan's Andijan region is used. For cargo from China, Torugart and Irkeshtam are considered.

Which documents are needed for Kyrgyzstan?

Commercial invoice, packing list, certificate of origin, CMR, TIR Carnet and the Iranian export declaration form the core set. As an EAEU member, Kyrgyzstan may require an EAC conformity document depending on the product. Requirements are confirmed before each shipment.

Can I send a few pallets to Bishkek?

Yes, groupage services to Bishkek carry small consignments. Consolidation adds a few days compared with a dedicated truck, but it is usually the most economical option for regular small shipments.

Do you ship from China to or via Kyrgyzstan?

Yes. We consider the Torugart and Irkeshtam crossings from Kashgar and, when needed, the Khorgos–Almaty–Bishkek route. For cargo from China to Iran, the China–Kazakhstan–Turkmenistan–Iran rail corridor can be used. The working schedule of each crossing is confirmed for every shipment.

Can you deliver to Osh in winter?

Yes. Cargo from Iran reaches Osh through the Fergana Valley, so it avoids the Töö-Ashuu and Ala-Bel passes on the Bishkek–Osh road, although the Kamchik pass in Uzbekistan can need extra planning in winter. We add buffer time and recommend heated or refrigerated trucks for freeze-sensitive cargo.

Do you have a representative office in Bishkek?

Yes. Royan Logistic has an active representative office in Bishkek.
