Iran–Pakistan freight: the Taftan crossing, Karachi and Gwadar

Pakistan is Iran's eastern neighbour; the two countries share a border between Iran's Sistan and Baluchestan province and Pakistan's Balochistan. Most cargo between Iran and Pakistan moves by road through the Mirjaveh–Taftan crossing, and sea freight is the main alternative for containers. As a Tehran-based company, Royan Logistic carries freight on the Pakistan route at competitive prices and plans each shipment around the cargo and current border conditions.

Border crossings between Iran and Pakistan

Mirjaveh–Taftan is usually chosen for a full truckload. Rimdan–Gabd is closer to the Makran coast. Because which crossing is open for which cargo can change, we confirm the crossing before departure.

Transport options

  • Road: Cargo is moved to south-eastern Iran and crosses into Pakistan at the chosen gate. Whether it continues on the same truck depends on permits and cargo; we state the method in the quote.
  • Sea: Containers can go from Iranian ports such as Bandar Abbas or Chabahar to Karachi, Port Qasim or Gwadar. Sailing schedules change over time; we share the current services when quoting.
  • Rail: The Quetta–Zahedan line passes through Taftan. Pakistan uses broad gauge and Iran standard gauge, so cargo is transferred at Zahedan; regular capacity varies, so we treat rail as a case-by-case option.

Documents

  • Commercial invoice and packing list; quantities and values must match
  • Transport document: CMR by road, bill of lading by sea
  • Certificate of origin (if the buyer or the rules require it)
  • Health, quality or phytosanitary certificates for food and plant products
  • The buyer's import registration and any permits needed in Pakistan

The document list varies by product and is confirmed against current regulations. We recommend confirming current trade, banking and insurance restrictions with your bank or legal adviser. For a detailed guide see our guide to shipping from Iran to Pakistan.

What to send for a quote

  • Loading and delivery cities (a full address if possible)
  • Cargo type, HS (harmonised system) code if known, and packaging
  • Number of pieces or pallets, dimensions and total weight
  • Target loading date and your preferred transport mode

Send the details through the request form on our contact page and we will come back with a route and transport proposal. For our services inside Iran see logistics in Iran.

Frequently asked questions

Which border crossings are used from Iran to Pakistan?

Mirjaveh–Taftan is usually used for a full truckload. Rimdan–Gabd is open for trade and passengers; Pishin–Mand and Kuhak–Chadgi are local border-trade crossings. We choose the crossing by cargo type and the current situation.

Can containers go to Pakistan by sea?

Yes. Cargo can move from Iranian ports such as Bandar Abbas or Chabahar to Karachi, Port Qasim or Gwadar. Sailing schedules and services change over time, so we share the current options when quoting.

How is the price set for Pakistan freight?

The price depends on the route, transport mode, cargo type, weight and size, season and border conditions. We work at competitive prices on the Pakistan route and share a quote for your cargo once we have your details.

Can cargo go to Pakistan by rail?

The line exists: the Quetta–Zahedan line passes through Taftan. Pakistan uses broad gauge and Iran standard gauge, so cargo is transferred at Zahedan. Regular capacity varies, so we treat rail as a case-by-case option and confirm capacity first.

Which documents are needed for a Pakistan shipment?

The basic set is a commercial invoice, packing list and transport document (CMR by road, bill of lading by sea). Depending on the product, a certificate of origin, health or phytosanitary certificates and the buyer's import registration are added. The exact list is confirmed against the product and current rules.
